New Year, New Adventures: Planning your 2026 Cornish staycation

Whether the start of the new year has dragged with the wet weather, or zoomed by with the hustle-and-bustle of daily life, now is a great time to start considering what trips you hope to do this year – and if you’re considering Cornwall? We’re here to help.

With its ever-changing landscapes, packed events calendar, and endless opportunities for adventure, a staycation in Cornwall is guaranteed to make an impression. And if you’re not sure how to make the most of it, here’s our guide to planning your getaway… without the hassle.

So, why plan now?

There’s no doubt Cornwall is a popular holiday spot. If you’re hoping to book something special in the busier seasons, it’s vital to book early for the chance to snag the best accommodation and avoid disappointment.

It also gives you plenty of time to plan your trip thoughtfully, allowing you to shape your trip around what matters most to you. From booking a summer escape overlooking the Atlantic or planning a quieter off-season retreat filled with coastal walks, cosy pub lunches and spectacular sunsets, you’ll be well-rewarded for getting organised.

For example, keen surfers or avid storm-watchers might want to book getaways in the colder months, chasing promises of bigger waves, while food lovers might prefer to build their itinerary around Cornwall’s thriving culinary scene over summer.

Whatever your preferences, booking ahead will no doubt make your trip that much sweeter when you’re finally packing your bags and switching on the out-of-office reply.

Choosing the right location

Choosing the right base is also key to turning a holiday into an unforgettable experience. Where you stay shapes how you relax, explore, and connect with the environment around you.

Love the beach? A coastal retreat allows you to wake up to the sound of waves, step straight onto scenic walking routes, and end your days watching the sun dip below the horizon.

Here at Lewinnick Lodge, we’ve got all that and more – and we’ll wager our cliff-side terrace has one of the best ocean views in Cornwall. Plus, our spot on Pentire Headland places you just a few minutes from bustling Newquay (even though you wouldn’t know it).

If a country escape is more your vibe, though, don’t worry! Our sister venue, The Plume of Feathers, has you covered, with a cosy bar, sun-drenched gardens, and easy access to all corners of Cornwall thanks to its central location.

Event highlights in 2026

One of the best things about visiting Cornwall is its lively events calendar, which promises something for every taste (both figuratively and literally).

Our food and drink festivals celebrate the best of the local produce on our doorstep, while music and arts events showcase Cornish creativity. Meanwhile, traditional celebrations capture the county’s unique heritage. St Piran’s Day, honouring Cornwall’s patron saint on 5th March, and Helston Flora Day on 8th May, an ancient festival that celebrates spring, are just two local highlights.

Here are some of our top events to mark in your diary for 2026:

Porthleven Food Festival, 24 – 26 April: A three-day feast with chef demos, street food, local producers, and live music in the famous harbour town of Porthleven.

Padstow ‘Obby Oss’ May Day Festival, 1 May: One of Cornwall’s oldest folk traditions returns with colourful processions, music, and lively May Day celebrations.

St Ives Food & Drink Festival, 15 – 17 May: Set on Porthminster Beach, this festival celebrates Cornish produce, local chefs and more (all with the sand between your toes).

Royal Cornwall Show, 4 – 6 June: The biggest event on Cornwall’s farming calendar, expect livestock, competitions, Cornwall makers, local food and family fun near Wadebridge.

Tunes in the Dunes, 5 – 7 June: This beachside music festival takes place on Perranporth Beach, featuring live bands, DJ sets and seaside partying.

Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, 12 – 14 June: A celebration of maritime music and community spirit, enjoy events across the pubs and streets around Falmouth’s waterfront.

Boardmasters, 5 – 9 August: Cornwall’s biggest surf and music festival, featuring world-class surfing at Fistral Beach and headline acts at Watergate Bay.

Falmouth Oyster Festival, 9 – 12 October: Celebrate the native Fal Oyster and diversity of Cornish seafood with four days of cookery demonstrations, feasting and festivities.

No matter when you visit, there’s always something to do or see in Cornwall. Our advice? Plan now, but keep your eyes peeled as more events are announced through the year!
