Round-up of the best events in Cornwall this summer

Forget April showers – here at Lewinnick HQ, we’re already turning our minds to summer!

Those brief flashes of sunshine we’ve been seeing lately are warming the cockles of our hearts and helping us feel inspired about spending another glorious summer in Cornwall.

And it’s not hard, either. With so many events happening in Cornwall during the warmest season of the year, there’s plenty to see and enjoy during your stay (not forgetting the chance to visit the world-famous surfing beaches, coast walks and more on our doorstep).

Here, we’ve rounded up some of our most anticipated events happening in Cornwall in Summer 2023.

Royal Cornwall Show, June, 8 – 10

Anyone who lives or grew up in Cornwall will know that the Royal Cornwall Show is one of the not-to-be-missed events of the year.

The show is the county’s biggest annual event, and boasts three jam-packed days of entertainment, shopping and foodie favourites, as well as the main showstoppers – which include farming competitions and the annual horse show.

Held at the beginning of June each year, the show has been running for more than 200 years, and is still a family favourite day out. The best part? From music and cider stalls to the traditional steam fair and extreme motorsports demonstrations, there’s something for everyone.

Eden Sessions, Various summer dates

Set against the backdrop of the famous Eden Project biomes, the Eden Sessions are a series of outdoor live music concerts held annually at this iconic Cornish attraction.

Over the years, the site has drawn the likes of Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Oasis and Queens of the Stone Age to its stage (to name just a few) thanks to the site’s natural acoustics.

This year, revellers can expect to see Lionel Richie, Yungblud, Jack Johnson and Kasabian, among others, through various dates over the summer. Your chance to see your favourite artists like never before!

Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, June 16 – 18

If you’ve ever heard a sea shanty, you’ll likely know there’s nothing that feels more Cornish than listening to shanty singers with an ale in hand, and the sounds of the ocean in the background.

And if you’re not sure what we’re talking about, in Falmouth, you can find that exact feeling at the largest free nautical music and song festival in Europe this summer!

The Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival is a weekend-long celebration of sea-inspired song, with pop-up bars and music stages throughout the town to celebrate this old nautical tradition.

Raising money for Falmouth RNLI, the lively festival is a huge draw for visitors from Cornwall and beyond, and one of Cornwall’s best folk music events of the year.

Boardmasters, August 9 – 13

Cornwall’s very own surf and music festival is back for another year of summer fun. The event, held on the outskirts of Newquay, sees thousands flock to the Cornish cliffs for a taste of the saltwater lifestyle.

With the likes of Lorde, Liam Gallagher and Florence and the Machine gracing the main stage throughout the event, the organisers promise five epic days of music and beach-inspired entertainment.

Tickets are on-sale now, so get them while you still can!

Falmouth Tall Ships, August 15 – 18

One of the world’s most prestigious tall ship races and events is returning to Cornwall this summer – for the first time in nine years!

Falmouth will once again host the start of the prestigious Tall Ships Race, Magellan Elcano, which is an event all about building international friendship and training for young people in the art of sailing.

Tall ships from around the world will arrive for four days of festivities including a ‘Parade of Sail’ before the race start (a stunning event which will see the majestic ships leave their berthing positions to cruise around Falmouth Bay). Visitors will even have a chance to board some of the historic ships for a self-guided tour.

Tickets are already on sale, and there will be plenty to see and do throughout the four-day celebration.
