The Lewinnick Mudslide: A decadent classic

What is a Mudslide?

A rich, frothy option of a cocktail, this one is not for the faint hearted (or the lactose-intolerant!). With Caribbean roots, the Mudslide was created in a bar in the Grand Cayman islands in the 1970s. As the story goes, at the time when the Wreck Bar on the island was just a thatched hut, a customer came in requesting a White Russian.

Unprepared for specific requests as this, the bar replaced the heavy cream used to make a White Russian with Irish Cream liqueur. Unsurprisingly, this substitution proved rather popular. The creation of the branded Baileys Irish cream then acted as a catalyst to the cocktail's popularity.

Lewinnick's Mudslide takes inspiration from the Mudslide's roots, with an added chocolate hit for good measure.

Recipe for the Lewinnick Mudslide

Ingredients
25ml Baileys
25ml Kahlua
25ml Creme de cacao
50ml Almond milk
Whipped cream
Chocolate sauce

Method
1. Measure all of your ingredients into a cocktail shaking with a helping of ice.
2. Shake the cocktail shaker until it’s cold to touch.
3. Pour the mix into a glass of your choice (we chose a long crystal for ease of drinking!)
5. Squeeze some chocolate sauce around the rim of the glass, not worrying about any drip or overspill (we find this adds a nice aesthetic and extra chocolatey goodness)
4. Top with squirty cream and extra chocolate sauce, as well as any other toppings you fancy (chopped nuts, biscuit crumb, etc.)
5. You’re all set. You may need a spoon for this one…
